Sophie Blumberg is a Los Angeles-based creative producer, deviser, and dramaturg. She is fascinated by human behavior, by the things that make cultures and individuals distinct, and by the connections that transcend cultural boundaries. She specializes in the development and creation of new work that actively engages in dialogue with audience experience.
Sophie’s work as a new play developer has been seen with CalArts Center for New Performance, The Civilians, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2018), Goodman Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Cherry Lane Theatre, REDCAT, The Moving Company, Pig Iron, The Hypocrites, Victory Gardens Theatre, Chicago Dramatists, Chicago Writers Bloc, First Floor Theater, and Cold Basement Dramatics, where she served as Co-Artistic Director.
Sophie is a founder and ensemble member with devised theatre project The Electric Brain, and an alumna of the Directing Internship at Actors Theatre of Louisville in 2014-2015. She received a 2014 Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs In The Works Grant for The Half-Life of Memory (Cold Basement Dramatics), a 2017 Drama League First Stage Artist Residency for Trixie the Giant, and is a 2017-2018 Manhattan Theatre Club Directing Fellow. B.A. Kenyon College. She is currently an MFA Candidate in Creative Producing at the California Institute of the Arts, where she also serves as the Associate Producer of the Center for New Performance.
